The previous best by an opener was Fakhar Zaman’s 193 against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2021.

117 – Shubman Gill scored the fastest ODI double century in history. The record was previously held by Indian cricket star Ishan Kishan, who reached the milestone in 125 balls against Bangladesh in 2023. Maxwell took 127 balls.

2 – Gill is only the second player to score multiple double centuries in ODI cricket after his opening partner Rohit Sharma, who has achieved the feat three times.

62 – Gill broke Rohit’s record (vs Afghanistan in 2023 WC) for the fastest ODI century by an Indian captain. Mohammad Azharuddin and KL Rahul also reached the milestone in as many balls.

2000 – Gill completed 2000 runs in India during the knock. He took 33 innings to reach the milestone. No player has reached the landmark quicker in a country. The record was previously held by Desmond Haynes.

The World No.1 batter is now the first player to achieve 300 runs in a series of three games twice, after making 360 runs against New Zealand in 2023, where he scored his first double ton.
