Shreyas Iyer batted at No. 4 for India in the first T20I against the West Indies and played an unbeaten knock of 102 runs off 43 balls in the 172-run chase at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The right-handed batter from Mumbai hammered 10 fours and six sixes to help India win the series opener by eight wickets.

Iyer’s century in the first T20I was his first triple-digit score in T20Is. He also became the first India captain to score a century while chasing in a T20I match. Before Iyer, the record for the highest score by an India captain in a T20I run chase was held by Virat Kohli.

Kohli had scored 94 runs off 50 balls against the West Indies in Hyderabad on December 6, 2019.
